MEGAPEDE – Worlds of Wax is a board game enclosed in a book, perfect for travel. While its strong, yet optional narrative component may be reminiscent of a gamebook, this is actually a dungeon crawler and wargame that fits in your hand. The genres of cosmic horror and sci-fi are thematically intertwined with fast-paced, claustrophobic gameplay. More specifically it's a light deckbuilding card game played with poker cards and generic miniatures or cardboard counters, which offers plenty of strategy and tactics throughout. Playable either solo or coop with a lot of variants in-between, the premise is straightforward: in a distant future, humanity is worn down by the relentless alien attacks. Only children are left to take up arms. Animal rights activists and former tree-huggers who once exalted pacifism have already done so, and in the process they have become mere shadows of their former selves... Hollow shells, soulless beings who, even if the war were to end, could never reclaim their future, having already sold their spirits away.
